Aquarium Isolation
Narelle Higson
Medium: oil pastel and cold wax
This piece has been created using layers of scribbled oil pastel and cold wax in an effort to capture light, movement and depth. At close viewing, the individual threads of colour and history of the creation of the piece are evident The human floats effortlessly in the centre of the frame, adrift from the concerns and weight of life, within reach of land at the sheltered swimming hole at The Aquarium in Yallingup. I am drawn to capturing floating figures, not only because of my love of the water and the Western Australian coastline, as the sensation of surrender to the cool water, the warmth of the sun... the muffled sounds.... time stands still.
