Blanche Lindegger
Medium: terracotta/earthenware
Working with clay brings to mind memories from Blanche's childhood growing up in rural South Africa. The Zulu women would fetch water from the rivers in their clay pots and carry it home on their heads. Her love of Rock Art was inspired by the ancient Bushman paintings she saw in the Drakensberg Mountains. This vessel is her attempt to evoke the sense of these rock faces and the treasure they hold. Eland, Springbok, San figures and a swarm of bees are depicted using Terracotta, Earthenware, crushed granite, iron oxide, underglazes and acrylic paint.
