Life Down South
My paintings reflect the connection between emotional events in my life and the physical environment. I was fortunate to live Down South for a few years and I long to return. This piece combines a representation of elements of the natural coastline that are so familiar to me, fragments of memories from different times. Walking a hot, sandy track anticipating how good the beach will be, swimming in a perfectly turquoise bay and telling myself to - remember - this - exact - moment, parking the car on a high ridge and looking up the coast as though in the distance I might somehow glimpse the future, standing there whispering goodbye to a dear friend who lit up the world. There are layers of stories brushed onto this canvas.
