Portholes and Portals, Between Islands
Drawing on my experiences of life at sea while navigating Australian waters this work explores the ephemeral world of the ocean through a constrained view. The porthole is used to frame the works, but also represents the boat as ‘vessel’, defined by the sense of containment and enclosure that can be experienced on board. The construction of a boat only allows for a small window with considerable depth confining the view so that only a portion of the vast landscape can be seen.
