Rain On Eyre Highway
Medium: oil on canvas
From the front passenger seat of our car, I sat and watched the landscape endlessly unfold before me as we drove from Darwin down through central Australia to South Australia. The changing colours and scenery blur past me as my gaze moves up at the distant horizon we are forever chasing, and back down to the blur of roadside shrubbery whizzing past. In South Australia as we approached the nullabour the rain started, distorting my view of the last of the trees into the most wonderful abstract shapes. I took a quick photo with my phone, and used this as the reference to form this painting. I have tried to capture the essence of that moment, the feeling of the moving car and the rain.
