Shell Collection
Myra Staffa
Medium: acrylic
Summer beachcombing memories collected on a plate. A still life study of a group of shells painted in a semi realistic manner. There is a contrast of strong light and deep shadows around the objects resulting in an atmosphere of summer sunlight at the beach. Each of the objects have distinctive texture and a slightly subdued palette of washed-out faded colours. The background is the colour and texture of beach sand with paint applied in rough broad brush strokes to enhance the surface. The large round plate creates the composition of the piece and gives a focal point to anchor the objects.
