Medium: porcelain and natural materials
What do we perceive as having stability and longevity and what is fragile and momentary? In my practice I am currently exploring ideas of permanence and space. The natural weaving, ephemeral in nature, is held and supported by the solid and seemingly permanent ceramic vessel. The cushion bush that makes up the weaving, has been growing in the south west of Western Australia for over a million years, growing from the earth, and returning back to the earth, in a continuous cycle, While the ceramic vessel, a piece of clay, turned irrevocably in to stone, has only recently come in to existence. Together, they form a paradoxical relationship of opposites. This work explores the spaces these two elements occupy testing their relationship, dependencies and stability.
